When the shadows slant eastward

I was struck by this description of the second act of life I recently read in Life Reimagined:The science, art and Opportunity of midlife by Barabara Hagerty, “When the shadows begin to slant eastward.” What a great description of this stage of life…  the sands of time are fewer and flowing faster…and we grasp at life knowing that the ultimate end is now on the horizon… What will retirement be like, if we retire at all?  What will my purpose and intention be in my waning years?  And will there be opportunities that will expand my thinking...

Take a break…seriously!

Recents events in our country and the increasing ridiculousness in social media and mass media has convinced me it‘s time for americans to break away and take a fast…a fast from the pablum served up as news…a fast from vitriolic posts about issues we neither really care about or are involved in.    Call it the coming of old age, or call it wisdom or foolishness…  but i am convinced our current era is the age of silliness disguised as seriousness.. We criticize a football  player for using his bully pulpit to make a stand for something he...
