It seems not a day goes by without news about tragic shootings in our inner cities and suburbs, or mass shootings in our schools and businesses.  We find ourselves wringing our hands and pointing fingers at systems and politicians and failings of society, then we turn and continue on our plodding through a life of accumulation and insulating ourselves from need and brokeness. I need a Man day

I have a four year old Grandson, named Jake.  He is sandwiched between two sisters and has a mom (my daughter juggling life as a single mom). To top it off his day care the last I heard he is one boy among 26 girls.  A few months ago they came to our house for a Saturday visit, and Jake looked up at me with those blue eyes and said “Grandpa when can we do a manday?” I said “What’s a Manday Jake?” “It’s where we go and do boy stuff with no girls around”. Why men don’t go to church

I admit for years I was a church shopper.  Hitting the latest and greatest of modern evangelical attempts to build something called Church and attract us and get us engaged in service and worship.  In my mind it has been a major failure.  Men by and large dread going to church and many have simply dropped out.  Oh sure they may be a physical presence in the pew, but their hearts and minds are elsewhere.
